LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Governor Rick Snyder signs four bills into law aimed to protect victims of domestic abuse.┬áNewschannel 3’s political reporter, Nick Minock, explains how these bills update, what lawmakers call, outdated laws that don’t fully protect Michigan families.

Every day, Michigan domestic violence hotlines receive over 20,000 calls according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In 2009, over 100,000 domestic violence incidents were reported to Michigan police.

Governor Rick Snyder signed a package of bills hoping to give victims of domestic violence “peace of mind.”
